Astronomy filters for colour imaging

Precision photometric filter sets are used widely within the astronomy community. LASER COMPONENTS’ partner, Omega Optical, manufacture a range of filters for colour imaging from Bessel, SDSS and Johnson/Cousins, tailored to accommodate specific detector sensitivities.

In addition to stock Bessel sets, LASER COMPONENTS offers custom filters to compensate for atmospheric light pollution, and for dedicated imaging applications. SDSS photometric sets cover wavelengths from 3,543 to 9,134 angstroms, and take advantage of new glass types to provide high transmission and steep edges.

In addition to the materials and production processes of photometric sets, filter matching is an important consideration. At Omega Optical, band shape, cut-on and cut-off, throughput, attenuation sensitivity to system focal ratio and operating temperature are controlled within strict tolerances in order to ensure consistency between filters.
