MEMS pressure sensor shapes weather forecast

The ZPA Series MEMS pressure sensor from Murata is now being shipped by Mouser Electronics. This small (2.3 × 2.6 mm) micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) sensor provides highly accurate pressure readings from 300 to 1,100 hPa, down to 0.016 Pa resolution. The sensor is designed by capacitive sensing technology, which allows the sensor’s ±1.0 hPa absolute accuracy across a wide temperature range (-10 degrees Celsius to +65 degrees Celsius; P=800 to 1,100 hPa).

This capacitive sensing technology enables a low typical noise level of 1.1 PaRMS and current consumption of just 6.3µA at 0.16-second conversion time.

The ZPA Series MEMS pressure sensor features SPI and I2C communication interfaces, and is designed for applications that demand high accuracy and low current consumption, including medical equipment, elevator equipment, indoor navigation, and weather monitoring.
