Sensor module enables quick ambient VOC detection

For the first time Unitronic will present at SENSOR+TEST 2015, a low-power USM-MEMSVOC sensor module that enables an especially rapid detection of different VOCs in the air. The USM has dimensions of 15x17x3mm and is equipped with a high-precision, long-term stable TGS 8100 miniature MEMS sensor from Figaro. Reacting within eight seconds to the release of harmful gases, the sensor offers current consumption in continuous operation of less than 14mA.

The USM-MEMS-VOC is designed for a supply voltage of 1.8V. As a result of its low current consumption and small size, the sensor module is especially suited for use in battery-operated applications. A PWM signal for analogue interpretation, three digital outputs, a UART interface, automatic base-level adjustment and automatic humidity/temperature compensation by means of an optional external sensor makes it easy to integrate the USM-MEMS-VOC into a wide range of applications.

For example, in combination with a climate control unit, room ventilation control that automatically reacts to pollutants and unpleasant odours can be realised with the USM-MEMS-VOC. This concept serves not only to enhance human well-being, but also contributes to optimising air conditioning energy efficiency.
