CCD image sensor suits machine vision applications

Hamamatsu Photonics has introduced the S12379, a linear CCD image sensor designed for machine vision cameras, targeting applications including chip counters and sorting machines. The S12379 offers a linear array of 2048 active pixels in a compact package only 36mm long. Each pixel is square, a necessity for machine vision applications.

The sensor offers a high-speed multiport readout of 40MHz/port (four ports) across a spectral range covering 200-1000nm, peaking at 600nm with a QE of nearly 80%. With a pixel size of 8μm2, the S12379 offers pixel binning and area scanning functionalities, and a typical CCD node sensitivity of 21μV/e.

In addition to these features, the S12379 also includes an anti-blooming function to prevent charge leaking into adjacent pixels, therefore ensuring accurate, consistent and high-sensitivity imaging.
