Data acquisition system enables multi-channel synchronisation

Keysight Technologies has developed a highly dense, 64 synchronous multichannel data acquisition system. The system is composed of eight M9703A AXIe high-speed digitisers in a 14-slot chassis and was developed for an enterprise leader in satellite telecommunication systems, where its main requirement was multichannel synchronisation and FPGA programming capability.

The modular solutions are extremely compact, enabling reduction of size while increasing the number of acquisition channels. The innovative design means the system has eight digitizers within one chassis. The synchronisation is realised through its unique AXIe local bus backplane. Up to 13 modules could be installed in the chassis for a total of 104 channels.

The 64-channel system is composed of eight M9703A AXIem 8-channel, 12-bit high speed digitiser/wideband receiver able to capture signals from DC up to 2 GHz at 1.6 GS/s; one U5340A FPGA development kit, for high-speed digitisers; one M9514A AXIe 14-slot chassis that provides 13 instrument modules slots plus an AXIe system slot; and one M9521A AXIe system module that provides the required system communication and synchronisation functions including trigger bus and clock routing and management.
