Low phase noise VCO is suited for satcomms

Operating from 2457 to 2458MHz with a tuning voltage range of 0.5-4.5VDC, Z-Communications has announced a RoHS compliant VCO, the model CRO2457A-LF. This high performance VCO features a spectrally clean signal of -115dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset and a typical tuning sensitivity of 8MHz/V.

The CRO2457A-LF is designed to deliver +6dBm of output power into a 50Ω load while operating off a 5VDC supply and drawing typically 24mA of current. This low noise VCO operates over the industrial temperature range of -40 to +85ºC and features typical second harmonic suppression of -18dBc.

The VCO has a pulling response of less than 1MHz with a 12dB return loss, any phase, and is housed in Z-Comm’s standard, MINI-16-SM package measuring 1.27×1.27×0.56cm (0.5×0.5×0.22″). It is available in tape and reel packaging for production requirements, making it suitable for automated surface mount assembly and reflow.

According to Z-Comm, the CRO2457A-LF is well suited for backhaul radios and satcomms applications that require low phase noise performance.
