Cost-optimised SoM for energy-efficient, smart applications

CHERRY Embedded Solutions introduces the compact System-on-Module RINGNECK SOM-PX30-µQ7, designed for Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications.

The RINGNECK module is tailored for mobile devices prioritising energy efficiency and compact space requirements. It features a comprehensive array of interfaces, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, CAN bus, USB, MIPI-CSI, MIPI-DSI, and LVDS, providing a cost-effective platform suitable for a broad spectrum of professional applications.

The most important features at a glance:

  • RINGNECK SOM-PX30-µQ7 is based on Rockchip’s low-power SoC PX30 with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A35 CPU
  • The integrated multimedia processor offers multi-format video decoding and video encoding (H.264, H.265). The ARM Mali GPU supports OpenGL and OpenCL 2.0 Full Profile. A dedicated 2D hardware engine enables image scaling, rotation and window composition to be outsourced and ensures smooth image output
  • A MIPI-CSI interface provides native support for high-resolution cameras
  • The CPU has ARM cryptography extensions and enables vector processing using Advanced SIMD
  • The secure boot mechanism guarantees that only signed images can be executed on the device. Together with the optional EAL6+-certified secure element, they ensure cryptographic identification and the secure storage of digital keys

Dr. Stefan Roth, Managing Director of CHERRY Embedded Solutions, explains: “Ringneck is part of our SoM series, which is specially tailored to the requirements of cost-efficient IoT applications. Developed and manufactured by highly experienced engineers, it combines the perfect balance of reliability, security and cost efficiency.”

Typical use cases include the following:

  • Web panels with touchscreen and PLC logic for configuring and parameterising industrial systems
  • Remote management and maintenance of vending machines
  • Testing and measuring devices for vehicle components
  • Intelligent surveillance cameras
  • Digital signage displays
  • Smart mirrors for the retail sector
