DToF sensor targets distances to 11,000mm DToF sensor targets distances to 11,000mm

In stock at authorised distributor Mouser Electronics is the TMF8829 direct time-of-flight (dToF) sensor from ams OSRAM.

This sensor features a configurable resolution of 8 x 8, 16 x 16, 32 x 32, and 48 x 32, and is based on SPAD, TDC, and histogram technology.

It achieves a target detection distance of up to 11,000mm with an 80° field of view (FOV), and all raw data processing is performed on-chip.

The dToF device provides distance information, signal amplitude, confidence values, and ambient light on its interface. The cover glass is highly tolerant to smudges, and the module can simultaneously handle multiple objects per depth point without degrading accuracy, reporting the distance of all depth points with a 0.25mm resolution.

The TMF8829 from ams OSRAM is a fully contained optical module with compact dimensions of 5.7 x 2.9 x 1.5mm.

The TMF8829 dToF evaluation kits, also available from Mouser, offer easy-to-use demonstration and prototyping platforms for the TMF8829 sensor.

Applications for the TMF8829 sensor include robot automation like obstacle avoidance, cliff detection, and room scanning, advanced gesture detection, people counting, simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLaM), laser detect autofocus (LDAF), and Bokeh effect for cameras.
