The Omron G6QG is a compact PCB-mounted power relay engineered for high-performance switching in space-constrained environments.

It stands out as the smallest relay in the industry capable of handling AC loads up to 480V and 55A, making it a powerful solution for demanding applications such as DC fast chargers, energy storage systems, and EV infrastructure.

The G6QG relay is now available from authorised distributor Anglia Components.

Managing heat in high-current switching components is a critical challenge for developers, especially in compact systems like DC fast chargers and energy storage platforms.

The G6QG relay addresses this issue utilising Omron’s design know-how with a multi-pronged thermal optimisation strategy rooted in advanced materials and structural design.

Omron has applied proprietary material technology to minimise the resistance along the current-carrying path.

Lower resistance means less energy is lost as heat during operation, which directly contributes to cooler relay performance under load.

The coil-side terminals – often a hotspot during energisation – have also been widened. This design change increases the surface area available for heat dissipation, allowing thermal energy to spread more efficiently and reducing the peak temperature at the terminals.

Additionally, the G6QG’s internal layout has been optimised to facilitate passive cooling, leveraging Omron’s experience in compact relay design. This includes strategic placement of conductive materials and thermal pathways that draw heat away from sensitive areas.

The relay is engineered to deliver exceptional performance in demanding power switching environments. With the ability to interrupt loads of 480VAC at 55A, it is not only ideal for single-phase power supply systems, but also robust enough to support three-phase applications.

Despite its high current handling capability, the G6QG maintains a remarkably compact form factor of just 30.5 x 20.5 x 16.0mm. This miniature footprint allows for space-efficient PCB layouts, making it a preferred choice for developers working within tight design constraints.

The relay features a contact gap of 2mm or more, aligning with the IEC 62109 standard – a critical safety requirement for photovoltaic (PV) inverter applications. This ensures reliable isolation and minimises the risk of arcing, giving developers confidence in its suitability for solar energy systems.

The relay offers a robust combination of electrical endurance, thermal resilience, and application versatility. With coil voltage options available in 12VDC and 24 VDC, providing flexibility for integration into a wide range of control systems, the relay is capable of handling 55A at 480VAC, both as a maximum switching current and a rated carry current, even at elevated ambient temperatures of 85°C.

Anglia are offering customers free samples of the G6QG compact high-power relay from Omron.
