Digi-Key at Embedded World 2022 with Nordic Semiconductor

At embedded world 2022, on the Digi-Key booth, Paige West speaks with Eirik Midttun and Joakim Tønnesen, Technical Product Managers, at Nordic Semiconductor ASA about the nRF5340 audio development kit and Bluetooth LE Audio, as well as Nordic’s cellular IoT offering.

Bluetooth LE Audio

LE Audio is the next generation of Bluetooth wireless streaming and the future of wireless sound. At the centre is a codec called Low Complexity Communication Codec (LC3) which supports higher quality, lower power wireless streaming compared with existing Classic Bluetooth audio solutions. Bluetooth LE Audio will enable engineers to enhance sound quality and power consumption of wireless audio products.

“We work with customers already who will launch this process [at Embedded World]. We see a lot of potential and we hope it happens fast,” said Joakim Tønnesen.

The nRF5340 Audio Development Kit (DK) is a design platform for rapid development of LE Audio products. The Audio DK is based on the company’s nRF5340 SoC and contains everything needed to get started on LE Audio development projects.

IoT offering

The company’s nRF Cloud Location Services use the Nordic Thingy:91 multi-sensor cellular IoT prototyping platform. nRF Cloud Location Services builds on Nordic’s versatile cellular IoT connectivity enabler. nRF Cloud allows users to access detailed, fast and accurate commercial location services for their nRF9160 SiP-powered cellular IoT devices.
