Multi-motor EV market to reach $144bn by 2025

The IDTechEx report on electric motors, which has become a reference for suppliers and users of EV’s, has been revised. The report, Electric Motors for Hybrid and Pure Electric Vehicles 2015-2025: Land, Water, Air, has found that there will be a $144bn market for multi-motor EV’s by 2025. Contributing to this is the 8.9m more motors that will be available for multi-motor vehicles.

The report, which includes new interviews, presents a comparison of 157 suppliers. It found that more suppliers are designing their EV’s with multi-motors, and these are selling. For example the Toyota Prius, in which the generator doubles as a traction motor, is the best-selling model in it’s range.

The 8.9m more motors available for multi-motor vehicles in 2025 is divided between 37 applicational categories. The majority of these are land and industrial-commericlal vehicles. However, Dr Peter Harrop, Primary Author, comments: “[the] largest profit may be made in military and other segments. In some segments you are likely to be competing with your customer, in others less so.”
