The panel will investigate the key question of how switching will evolve. Some of the possibilities that will be explored include ROADMs, OTNs, or packet switching. These options will be evaluated in terms of cost, flexibility relation and customer requirements. This group of experts will also focus on quantifying the benefit of integrating OTN switching, incorporating GMPLS control plane intelligence and what SDN means for the emerging converged optical transport layer with integrated switching.
“I am very much looking forward to exploring the many facets of this important issue with my colleagues,” says Dr. Walklin. “Switching is certainly a feature of our industry that has seen a variety of exciting advances and I think this panel will help us all further establish how we approach these changes.”
