With economical but very powerful Intel Core i7 embedded CPUs and high-speed SSDs from Intel the performance of the mobile autonomous systems was able to be considerably increased. Fast image processing with high-resolution cameras as well as expensive autonomous learning, steering and control functions are now possible without a problem.
With the aid of high-end video streaming via WLAN these autonomous systems can now also be used in many new industrial sectors as well as for science and research.
The mobile robots of LUHbots are used and developed at the Institute for Mechatronic Systems (imes) at the Leibniz University of Hannover. The core focus of the research activities at imes is on the development, simulation, optimisation and control of complex mechatronic systems.
The afore-mentioned mobile platforms are youBot robots from KUKA Laboratories Augsburg, which can move extremely flexibly with four omni-directional wheels and are equipped with up to two robot arms with grippers.
