Highly Integrated Boost Regulator Provides a Cost-Effective Power Solution for LCDs

Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX17075 boost regulator with integrated charge pumps, switch control, and a high-current operational amplifier. Developed using Maxim’s proprietary high-voltage process technology, this device integrates all functions required to power the source drivers, gate drivers, and VCOM backplane in LCDs. It also includes a switch for gate-driver-supply modulation. A highly integrated, step-up DC-DC converter, the MAX17075 provides a cost-effective, high-performance solution for LCD monitors and TVs.

To minimize total solution size, the MAX17075 features a 1.2MHz switching frequency, which allows the use of low-profile inductors and ceramic capacitors. The boost regulator also integrates a power MOSFET and digital soft-start to reduce the number of external components required to control inrush currents. Through this topology, the MAX17075 provides output voltages up to 18V from a 2.5V to 5.5V input, while achieving efficiencies over 85%.

Additionally, the device integrates charge pumps that provide LCD gate-on and gate-off supplies, and it allows the output voltage to be adjusted using external resistive voltage-dividers. The built-in op amp drives the VCOM backplane and features ±500mA short-circuit current with a 45V/microsecond slew rate.
