Medical Electronics Presentation Discusses The Journey from Bench to Commercial Success

A key presentation at the upcoming Medelec event will discuss the challenge of developing commercially successful products for the health sector. Michael Garrison, Head of Business Development at Health Enterprise East Ltd will argue that it is no longer sufficient to develop novel medical devices, diagnostics and healthcare products with distinctive and improved features. Economic and quality/safety pressures on healthcare mean that it has to improve the productivity, safety and quality of healthcare delivery.

Health Enterprise East Ltd (HEE) is the NHS partner organisation for Innovation. HEE helps companies realise commercial success in the NHS market by aligning the benefits of innovative products and optimal patient care pathways to achieve the strategic aims of the NHS.

Michael Garrison joined HEE in 2010 from the pharmaceutical industry, where his 31-year career spanned the globe.

His experience includes 12 years in pharmaceutical sales and marketing in the USA with Wellcome, followed by 19 years based in the UK but having global management responsibilities for a variety of functional areas. Those areas included new product development & commercialisation of three products having over $1bn annual sales, business & corporate development, intellectual property management (i.e., patents & trademarks) at GlaxoWellcome Plc, Gilead Sciences Inc. and Phytopharm Plc.

Medelec, the new medical electronics conference and exhibition will be held in Cambridge on the 29th November 2011. www.medelec.co.uk
