A major benefit of this type of turnstile is that it verifies that the person entering the secure area is the same person that has entered the turnstile and it will be ideal for airports, docks, building sites, nuclear establishments and other areas where total security is required without the presence of a security guard. The interlock mechanism for this type of turnstile requires the highest levels of reliability as a fault on the system could cause entrapment of an individual in a remote location.
Clarke Instruments consulted Access Electrical Services, a company that also supplied LED indicators and push-buttons for this important new project, to source a suitable device and Access recommended the Contrinex Series 600 inductive sensors. Made in Switzerland, these high quality products beat off strong competition in terms of both price and quality.
A multiple Contrinex sensor array, which is located at the top of the gate, detects lobes on a specially formed cam that controls the interlocking mechanism for access, bio-metric assessment and subsequent passage of approved personnel though the turnstile.
The Contrinex range of Series 600 inductive sensors has a chrome plated brass housing protected to IP67, a wide stable temperature range from –25ºC to +70ºC and a long sensing distance of 8mm. An LED output state indicator and in-built short circuit and overload protection are provided as standard.
