Expanding the company's TX04 series of ARM Cortex-M4F microcontrollers, Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced the TMPM411F20XBG. This MCU facilitates secure electric power calculation and communication in smart meters, as well as sensing and communications in other measurement applications.

A smart meter typically incorporates separate controllers for electric power calculation, data communication and output display. The TMPM411F20XBG integrates multiple functionalities in a single chip, achieving independent control of the electric power calculation and communication control. This reduces the circuit board area within the smart meter, saving space.

The microcontroller is also secure, implementing tamper detection and failure detection with very low power consumption. Key security functions for secure network communications are included, such as Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA) and Entropy Source Generator (ESG).

Operating at 2.7-3.6V and a maximum frequency of 80MHz, the TMPM411F20XBG has an internal Flash memory of 2048kB to enable robust code and data storage as required for extensive service lifetime. It also includes 290kB SRAM, 34-channel direct memory access and a 9-channel 12-bit ADC.

The TMPM411F20XBG microcontroller is available in 14x14mm VFGBA193 package.
