ARM Cortex-M0-based MCU is optimised for printers

Offering increased communication and timer functionality channels than its predecessor, Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced the TMPM036FWFG ARM Cortex-M0-based MCU. The device is optimised for traditional and multi-function printers, as well as having potential applications in consumer electronics, digital devices and industrial machinery.

Printer MCUs need to communicate with the main control unit and on-board peripherals units, as well as have a timer function that can output pulses to control stepping motors and DC motors. A greater number of communication channels are required to develop more fully featured printers.

The TMPM036FWFG features an ARM Cortex-M0 core, operating at a maximum frequency of 20MHz across a voltage range of 2.3-3.6V. System development cost-efficiency is improved by allowing use of the same development environment system as the company's ARM Cortex-M-based TX03/TX04 series.

The MCU incorporates an eight-channel communication interface (six-channel SIO/UART & two-channel I2C), two channels more than its predecessor, the TMPM037FWUG, and a 14-channel 16-bit timer (compared to 10 channels in the TMPM037FWUG). Developers can select their optimum MCU according to the system scale or usage from these two products.

Housed in a 14x14mm LQFP100-pin package with a 0.5mm pitch sample shipments of the TMPM036FWFG will start in March.
