Electric supercharger operates continuously at high boost levels
Aeristech has announced what it claims to be the first electric supercharger capable of continuous operation at high boost levels. Independently validated by Ricardo and MAHLE Powertrain UK, the technology provides greater efficiency and easier packaging than a mechanical supercharger or a two-stage turbocharger.
Controlled energy supplies with Powerstar Virtue
Energy storage can now be linked with voltage optimisation and renewables with the revolutionary Powerstar Virtue. Dr Alex Mardapittas, Managing Director, EMSc, explains the benefits of the groundbreaking technology.
Enclosed power supplies offer streamlined design & high degree of automation
MEAN WELL has announced its LRS series of next-gen 35-350W “without PFC” enclosed power supplies, with model numbers of 35/50/75/100/150/150F/200/350. The LRS family exploits a streamlined circuit design that lowers component count, and the high degree of automation raises cost competitiveness and production yield. Compared to the former generation, the RS series, the LRS series is more efficient and further miniaturised.
Gate-drive transformers offer an insulation level of 3kV
Designed to control MOSFETs in automotive DC/DC power converters, the GDAU series of high insulation gate-drive transformers have been introduced by PREMO. The devices, which measure less than 8mm height, offer an insulation level of 3kV and a creepage distance greater than 5mm.
Ultra-low quiescent-current regulator suits IoT SoCs at 55nm
Since they use just 1% of their battery life in active mode, one of the major challenges of IoT applications is lowering the deep-sleep mode power consumption. Designers need to achieve a power consumption as low as a few micro-amps, while preserving data retention and supplying always-on functions. The qLR-Aubrey ultra-low quiescent-current linear regulator from Dolphin Integration meets this need.
Power modules operate in freezing temperatures
RECOM has launched its latest generation of low-power modules with rated outputs of 2 or 3W respectively. One of the main added features is the extended operating temperature range, allowing the RAC02-SE/277 and RAC03-SE/277 series to be used in areas where temperatures drop as low as -40°C. The 2W module is now also available with cables.
Murata sponsors electric motorbikes at MotoE
Murata has entered into a sponsorship agreement with Nottingham University for the development of a student designed electric racing motorbike. The sponsorship includes the provision of technical engineering support from Murata’s Power division based in Milton Keynes, DC/DC converter supplies, alongside the usual marketing support.
Synchronous buck regulator IC features 3A output
The latest product from Allegro MicroSystems Europe has been announced, the A8654 is a high-output current synchronous buck regulator IC that can produce a 3A steady-state load current from an input voltage ranging from 4 to 36V. The device integrates low 'on' resistance high-side MOSFETs and low-side n-channel MOSFETs and utilises external compensation to accommodate a wide range of power components.
Power sources gain DC regenerative sink capability
Enhancing its California Instruments' RS and MX series power sources, AMETEK Programmable Power has announced that they now have the ability to sink DC current. This addition allows users to source and sink both AC and DC currents at up to 100% of the source's rated output power. When sinking current, the current is regenerated and returned to the electrical grid, reducing operating costs.
Industrial power supplies use minimal DIN-rail space
XP Power has announced the DSA series of slim DIN rail industrial AC/DC power supplies, and the complementary DSA-DP20 ORing redundancy module. The efficient DSA series comprises the 150W DSA150, the 240W DSA240 and the 480W DSA480. With a single output of either 24 or 48VDC, the range is aimed at industrial applications such as process control and building automation, where DIN-rail space is at a premium.
