Cars and flow batteries?
According to IDTechEx, lithium-ion batteries will dominate the automotive scene over the coming ten years and possibly the coming 15 years. During that time we shall see peak lead acid battery the biggest nail in its coffin being when electric vehicles more widely abandon them and even those conventional vehicles modified to stay legal under impending carbon dioxide laws abandon them, relying totally on lithium-ion units.
Power quality monitoring saves design time and cost
To help extend the health and life of industrial equipment while saving developers significant time and cost over custom solutions, Analog Devices has introduced a highly integrated polyphase analogue front end (AFE) with power quality analysis. Achieving accurate, power quality monitoring typically requires customised development, which can be expensive and time-consuming.
Automotive power MOSFETs expand with low resistance device
The family of automotive power MOSFETs from Toshiba Electronics Europe has expanded with the TK1R5R04PB - the first device in its low-resistance D2PAK+ package. While the D2PAK+ has the same footprint as a conventional D2PAK (or TO-263) package, it offers reduced package resistance. This is thanks to a source pin that is much wider near to the mould surface than that of a conventional D2PAK.
Power supply units provide customisable solutions
QUINT4 power supply units from Phoenix Contact are now in stock at Mouser Electronica. These fourth-generation QUINT POWER supplies provide fully customisable solutions to meet evolving system demands in process industries, machine building, and other industrial applications.
AC power supply meets Level VI energy efficiency standard
With its green-friendly power design, the WAU series wall plug-in AC power supply from Triad Magnetics may be the first AC/AC External Power Supply (EPS) to meet the Level VI energy efficiency requirements of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the California Energy Commission (CEC), while offering superior performance, long-life and value for a wide range of electronic equipment applications.
Battery pack configuration service has shorter lead times
A lithium-ion battery pack configuration service called CellPac BLOX has been introduced by VARTA Storage. The service offers the flexibility of a full custom battery pack but with shorter lead times and low engineering costs, and provides system designers with a range of lithium-ion cells, Protection Circuit Modules (PCMs) and connectors.
External power supplies deliver safe and reliable power
Mascot’s latest external power adapters come with interchangeable wall plugs and work with AC line voltages from 90V to 264V, allowing use with a wide variety of products including communication, medical, computing or office equipment deployed anywhere in the world. The wall-plug units connect via a 2-pin IEC 320 socket, which allows the additional option of using an ordinary desktop power cord.
Power supply runs at 100W with convection cooling
Power Conversion Technology introduces a new series of 100W medical power supplies from the leading Taiwanese manufacturer, Magic Power Technology. In an compact 2”x4” package, the clever design offers an efficiency of up to 91%, at a high level of quality, and low price levels. The power supplies have an output voltage of 12, 24 or 48V with optional cover kit.
High-power converter standard supports 1kW of output power
A standard has been announced by the Architects of Modern Power (AMP Group) consortium which aims to keep designers of high-performance datacom and telecom equipment one step ahead as cloud computing and IoT continue to drive power density and power requirements higher.
Medical-grade power supplies offer convection cooling
A series of medical-grade AC/DC power supplies offer full performance at elevated ambient temperature levels, for example in enclosures where forced cooling is not possible because of hygiene, safety, contamination or acoustic noise. RECOM’s RACM series contains 40, 65 and 100W modules which offer continuous output power with free air convection cooling.
