Regenerative SCR control for OEM applications
The MGC Series has been announced by American Control Electronics (ACE) as a new microprocessor-based fully regenerative SCR control. The on-board microprocessor allows ACE to preconfigure the MGC for a customer’s specific application. OEMs can select various modes of operation out of the box, including: torque, linear torque, independent speed/torque, cycling via limit switches, cycling via feedback, and positioning.
CompactPCI blade comes with 6th Gen Intel Core i7 processor
ADLINK Technology has introduced the cPCI-6630 6U CompactPCI, the world’s first CompactPCI blade with the 6th generation Intel Core i7 processor in a 6U form factor on the embedded market. ADLINK’s latest addition to its value line of processor blades also features support for legacy IO, including VGA, PMC, CompactFlash, USB 2.0 and PS/2 keyboard/mouse; and support for QNX 6.5/6.6 and Linux legacy OSes for easy integration.
MCU groups achieve full portfolio coverage
Supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, Renesas Electronics, has announced that it is extending its microcontroller (MCU) portfolio within the Renesas Synergy Platform to cover a wider range of capabilities, CPU performance, and memory sizes, so system developers can get exactly what they need to create innovative solutions that drive their businesses. This broadened spectrum of scalable and compatible MCUs provides developers with many opt...
Chips stand guard in Haltian's trackerphone
Motion-sensing and data-processing chips from STMicroelectronics help increase family safety in the Snowfox trackerphone, a two-way portable communication device with locating capabilities designed for children and seniors by Haltian, a Finnish design and engineering start-up. The matchbox-sized, easy-to-carry trackerphone maps its wearer in real time in addition to letting you reach them by calling.
Extending the portfolio of COTS SBCs with Intel Xeon processor
Kontron has announced the VX6058, a new 6U VPX SBC with Intel Xeon processor D-1500 product family Octa-Core CPUs. Combined with the Kontron VX3920 10G/40G Ethernet switch and a 3U VPX backplane, the VX6058 is a perfect path to upgrade legacy 1G Ethernet switched multiprocessing systems to 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.
Embedded cellular module provides device to cloud architecture
An embedded cellular module from Sierra Wireless is available at Richardson RFPD with full design support capabilities. The WP8548 is part of Sierra Wireless’ AirPrime WP Series, which provides an integrated device-to-cloud architecture enabling IoT developers to build a Linux-based product on a single module and seamlessly send valuable user and product data to the cloud.
Low-power applications addressed by MCU family
The PIC16F15386 family, a powerful launching point into the 8-bit PIC microcontroller (MCU) portfolio from Microchip is now available at distributor Rutronik. In addition to Microchip’s current Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs), this new family includes a high-accuracy 32MHz internal oscillator and memory features such as Memory Access Partition (MAP) with bootloader-friendly write-protection to prevent accidental over-write.
Microcontrollers give designers more flexibility
PIC18FxxK40 microcontrollers from Microchip Technology are in stock at Mouser Electronics. The 8-bit PIC18FxxK40 microcontrollers combine flash, EEPROM, and RAM memory; rich peripheral integration; and eXtreme Low-Power (XLP) features to suit a variety of general-purpose and low-power applications.
Low power MCU architecture setting standard for IoT devices
Cypress Semiconductor has announced PSoC 6, its newest microcontroller (MCU) architecture that is purpose-built for the IoT. The architecture is built on low power 40-nm process technology and delivers the lowest power and most flexible solution, with integrated security features required for next gen IoT devices.
MCUs get easier design with graphical configurator
STMicroelectronics has made starting designs with its 8-bit STM8 microcontrollers easier and faster by introducing the STM8CubeMX graphical configurator. STM8CubeMX supports the complete portfolio of mainstream, low-power, and automotive 8-bit STM8 microcontrollers. This new, free tool helps designers select the optimum 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) from the STM8 family to satisfy their application requirements.
