Battery management system yields safer EVs
The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) highlight the challenges faced by large Lithium Ion batteries that need to operate efficiently in extreme and harsh environments, say Tamer Kira and Daniel Miller, Maxim Integrated
Efficiency is key to cost-effective data storage
Protecting the systems that store data and ensuring constant, high power supply at low acquisition and operating costs is a significant challenge for design engineers, says Armin Derpmanns, general manager, solution marketing at Toshiba Electronics Europe
Reversing relies on video for safety updates
Rearview cameras will be mandatory in new vehicles from May this year. They will rely on real-time video to show the driver hazards, but they have their own design challenges, says Jonpaul Jandu, Renesas Electronics
Build an express lane to the cloud
Increasingly, personal and business information is being stored as digital information in the cloud, G.fast technology allows fast, reliable and secure access, writes Phillip Havens, principal engineer, Standards & Applications, Littelfuse
The ART of keeping utilities reliable and efficient
New line current sensors allow utilities to monitor their overhead distribution lines to maximise their capacity and prevent clearance violations, explains Patrick Schuler, LEM
How Micropross test equipment could accelerate time-to-market
Wireless charging has shifted from being a purely accessory oriented market to being embedded directly in high end devices, such as mobile phones, phablets, tablets. The motto of standard promotion groups such as the Wireless Power Consortium is very clear: now is the time to cut the power cable, and act in favour of global mobility.
Step-down DC/DC regulator offers 98% conversion efficiency
ABSOPULSE Electronics has recently released the BUR 3K-P600, a compact, encapsulated, industrial grade, step-down DC/DC regulator that delivers up to 3000W output power. The unit steps a 600Vdc (400-800Vdc) input down to 300Vdc or similar voltage at very high efficiency. The use of the latest semiconductor technology contributes to 97-98% efficiency, allowing high power density in a compact 155 x 68.5 x 270 mm enclosure.
Power Entry Modules suitable for use in audio and video equipment
Schaffner has had their FN 9280 and FN 9290 families of market-leading high-end IEC Power Entry Modules (PEM) approved to IEC62368-1. Certification to IEC62368-1 enables customers manufacturing Audio/Video, Information and Communications Technology equipment to comply more easily with the requirements of the new technology-independent ‘hazard-based’ standards approach.
Plug-top supplies provide 2 MOPP and meet efficiency standards
XP Power has announced additions to its ACM series of external plug-top (wall mount) single output AC/DC power supplies. The 12 Watt ACM12, 24 Watt ACM24 and the 36 Watt ACM36 models comply with the latest energy efficiency and safety standards required for use in healthcare and industrial applications. With a maximum no-load power consumption of 75 mW across the range, the ACM series meets the latest Level VI energy efficiency standard for ...
Compact transistor delivers 600W for RF energy applications
The launch of the 600W BLF0910H9LS600 LDMOS power amplifier transistor has been announced by Ampleon. This is the first RF energy transistor using Ampleon’s latest Gen9HV 50V LDMOS process, a node that has been optimised to deliver greatly increased efficiency, power and gain.
