Suitable for mil/aero COTS applications, the sMV500 high power density COTS ADC has been introduced by Astrodyne. The 500W device, which expands the company’s Super MegaVerter series, utilises an IMS metal baseplate, planar transformers and surface mount construction to provide maximum power density and performance.

Alongside a high power density in excess of 90W/in³, the ADC features high typical AC to DC efficiency in excess of 90% at 230VAC and an adjustable output voltage ranging from 60 to 120%. The sMV500 is offered in output voltages of 12, 28 and 48VDC.

Measuring 116.84x60.96x12.70mm, the device features an input range of 85-265VAC and a frequency range of 47-440Hz. The ADC, which features remote sensing and low output noise, is offered with over temperature, over voltage, over current and short circuit protection. Operating across a temperature range of -40 to +100°C, the sMV500 can be used in both parallel and series configurations.

Jerrold M. Hornstein, Director of Business Development, mil/aero, Astrodyne-TDI, commented: “The sMV500 family of products offer an all-in-one 500W, AC/DC solution with efficiencies in excess of 90%, active PFC and supports AC input frequencies of 47 to 440Hz in a full brick form factor. Our recent introduction of a 12V model extends the family range and opens up opportunities in military, commercial avionics and other thermally and shock and vibration challenged applications.”
