At electronica 2014, from 11th to 14th November, Swissbit will be presenting it’s first DDR4 ECC SODIMM. Using the 4th gen DDR, the device can achieve higher data rates than when used with the DDR3, while consuming the same amount of power consumption. Featuring optimised data bus termination, dynamic bus inversion and CRC protection of the command/address bus, the 8GB SODIMM is designed for next-gen embedded boards.

DDR3 offers a data rate of 1600MHz, while DDR4 offers that of 2133MHz, improving performance by 30%. Supply voltage is also reduced from 1.35V in DDR3 to 1.20V in DDR4. Reducing power consumption and heat generation, DDR4 provides improved data bus termination, bus inversion, internal grouping of banks and the supply of the wordline boost voltage via the module connector.

DDR4 also offers error protection of the command/address bus, allowing transmission errors of the main control signals to be detected. The 260 signal and voltage pins allow users to use modules both with or without ECC support and in the same pin assignment, providing a more flexible system specification.

The Swissbit DDR4 ECC SODIMM is sampling now and will be available in 2015.
