A multi-year agreement has been signed between Imagination Technologies and Green Hills Software which will deliver Green Hills compiler and tools support to a broad range of Imagination’s current and future MIPS CPU cores and architectures.

Green Hills compiler and tools will be used for the MIPS Aptiv cores, as well as the new MIPS Warrior family of cores comprised of the entry-level M-class cores, mid-range I-class cores, and high-performance P-class cores. Capability upgrading is also being undertaken by Green Hills Software in order to deliver fully optimised support for the microMIPS code compression ISA and the latest MIPS r5 architecture. This will also include key features such as hardware virtualization. Green Hills Software and Imagination Technologies will also work together in support of next-generation architectures.

Mike Haden, General Manager, Advanced Products, Green Hills Software commented: “Green Hills has a long history of support for MIPS, and we are continuing that tradition through this comprehensive new agreement. Under Imagination, we are seeing growing demand for MIPS. With Imagination’s and Green Hills Software’s combined expertise in security, multi-threaded and multicore CPUs, and heterogeneous computing, this collaboration will provide tremendous value to joint customers.”

Derek Carlson, Vice President of development tools, Microchip Technology added: “We are delighted to see Imagination and Green Hills partner to broaden their support of the Microchip PIC32 portfolio of 32-bit microcontrollers, which utilises the MIPS microAptiv core. This will enable our customers to exploit the leadership performance and code efficiency of our PIC32MZ family of microcontrollers, to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions.”

MIPS CPU support from Green Hills Software includes their C/C++ compiler, assembler and linker, binary toolchain, MULTI IDE, Green Hills Probe and SuperTrace Probe and documentation.
