Including several new features to simplify ease of use, IAR Systems has announced an updated version of the embedded development toolchain, IAR Embedded Workbench for Renesas SuperH. Additionally, this version features improved optimisations, updated device support and example projects.

In version 2.30 of IAR Embedded Workbench for SuperH, the text editor and the source browser has gained new functionality in order to simplify and increase efficiency for developers of SuperH-based applications. The text editor now provides features including auto-completion, parameter hints, code folding, block select and indent, bracket matching, zoom and word/paragraph navigation; while the enhanced source browser now offers functionality for going directly to a chosen declaration, and for finding all references to a symbol.

Sampled Graphs are now available in the C-SPY Debugger which is incorporated with IAR Embedded Workbench. It allows users to specify variables for which data samples should be collected and view the sampled data either in table format in the Data Sample window or as graphs in the Sampled Graphs window. A custom special function register window is also available which allows users to define custom SFRs in C-SPY with selectable access size and type.

Additionally, version 2.30 features a Macro Quicklaunch window enabling evaluation expressions and the launch of C-SPY macros. The return value from the evaluated macro or expression is shown in a separate column and the user can retrigger the evaluation at any given point. Displaying all calls made to and from each function from any source file in the active project, a browsable Call Graph window enables users to easily navigate through the function call hierarchy.

IAR Embedded Workbench for SuperH version 2.30 has a new license management system to simplify administration with features such as commuter licenses, automatic license activation and support for virtual servers. This version also adds support for the latest SuperH devices together with a variety of new example projects.
