Astrodyne TDI now offers a digitally programmable AC/DC power supply that provides 3,800W of regulated power and can operate as either a current or voltage source up to 400V or 170A. The modular 3.8kW Mercury-Flex is hot-swappable enabling maximum uptime.
GCU & EDF Energy collaborate for safer, reliable power supply
Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and EDF Energy are continuing their collaboration to enhance the safety and reliability of high-voltage equipment in power stations, through a new £116,000 research project. Research conducted by GCU since 2011 has changed the way power cables and motors are monitored in EDF Energy’s power stations, providing innovative techniques which enable the identification of cable insulation defects and ...
Battery electrodes are derived from pollen
Pollens, the bane of allergy sufferers, could represent a boon for battery makers: Recent research has suggested their potential use as anodes in li-ion batteries. Batteries have two electrodes, called an anode and a cathode. The anodes in most of today's li-ion batteries are made of graphite. Li-ions are contained in a liquid called an electrolyte and these ions are stored in the anode during recharging.
36V, 800mA linear regulator features an extended SOA
Providing key usability, monitoring and protection features, the LT3089 rugged 800mA wide input voltage range linear regulator has been unveiled by Linear Technology. The device has an extended SOA (Safe Operating Area) compared to existing regulators, making it suitable for high input-to-output voltage and high output current applications where older regulators limit the output.
Battery technology could charge up water desalination
The technology that charges batteries for electronic devices could provide fresh water from salty seas, says a new study by University of Illinois engineers. Electricity running through a salt water-filled battery draws the salt ions out of the water. Illinois mechanical science and engineering professor Kyle Smith and graduate student Rylan Dmello published their work in the Journal of the Electrochemical Society.
Transmitter save power for latest WiFi protocol
Optimised for IoT applications and the IEEE802.11ah WiFi protocol, a low power, digital polar transmitter was presented at ISSCC 2016.
Microsite focuses on power management technology
A Power Management Technology site designed to give engineers easy-to-access information on the latest technical advances in power management technologies has been unveiled by Mouser Electronics. As part of Mouser’s growing selection of Applications and Technologies sites, the Power Management Technology site provides a wealth of resource material.
SiC MOSFETs enable higher efficiency & power density
Wolfspeed, a Cree company, has announced that Gruppo PBM is using its MOSFETs in the HF9 battery charger family to enable higher efficiency and power density at a lower overall system cost.
Companies to develop tool for longer battery life for smartphones
Graphics researchers at Samsung Electronics UK have teamed up with mobile graphics specialists Codeplay, Think Silicon and TU Berlin to develop a tool for enabling smartphone batteries to last longer while running advanced video games and using the camera.
Desk top power supplies meet Level Vl CEC requirements
Featuring a very low standby power consumption, the PSGE40-65 series desk top power supplies have been introduced by Powersolve to meet the latest CEC Level Vl requirements for Energy Saving due to come into effect this year. These 40-65W compact power supplies operate from an AC input of 90-264VAC and, with single DC output voltages of 12, 15, 16, 18 or 24V, they will meet practically every application for desk-top units.
