Transceiver family includes automotive Grade 0 qualified parts
Microchip announces the industry’s first family of Controller Area Network (CAN) transceivers including automotive Grade 0 qualified parts. The ATA65XX family adds six new devices to Microchip’s CAN portfolio. The new family supports the recently established CAN FD (Flexible Data-rate) protocol for up to 5 Mbit/s communication speed and the new CAN PN (Partial Networking) standard for improved energy efficiency for vehicles.
Dual 3.5A synchronous buck reduces EMI
Analog Devices, which recently acquired Linear Technology, has announced the LTC7124, a high efficiency, 4MHz synchronous dual output buck regulator that incorporates a constant frequency, peak current mode architecture. Optional spread spectrum frequency modulation is integrated for reducing radiated and conductive EMI noise. The device can deliver up to 3.5A of continuous output current from each channel or generate a 2-phase single output...
Power design drives robotics with 99% efficiency
Texas Instruments has introduced an innovative three-phase, Gallium Nitride (GaN)-based inverter reference design that helps engineers build 200V, 2kW AC servo motor drives and next-generation industrial robotics with fast current-loop control, higher efficiency, more accurate speed, and torque control.
USB Type C Integrated Power Splitter designed for smartphones
A very robust single-input, dual-output power splitter designed for mid- and high-end smartphones and tablet PCs, the SLG59H1302C has been designed by Silego Technology. Any integrated circuit (IC) product designed for consumer electronics and operating in the vicinity of edge connectors must be tolerant of electrical surges and abuses caused by an incorrect application of power adapters. In these applications, system-level, over-voltage pro...
Taking one step closer to a functional fusion reactor
Providing clean and safe energy, which is free from carbon dioxide emissions, could be possible through fusion power. However, it is very difficult to imitate the solar energy process. Two plasma physicists at Chalmers University of Technology are one step closer to a functional fusion reactor, and have developed a model that could lead to better methods for decelerating runaway electrons, which could destroy a future reactor without warning...
6A step-down regulator comes in a compact 4mm x 5mm QFN
Analog Devices, which recently acquired Linear Technology, has announced the LTC3636 and LTC3636-1 are high efficiency, 4MHz synchronous dual output buck regulators that incorporate a unique constant frequency/controlled on-time, current mode control scheme with phase lockable switching frequency. Further, their innovative design architecture reduces conducted and radiated emissions.
USB Type-C controllers enhance operation safety
Two new USB Type-C-certified port-controller ICs have been introduced by STMicroelectronics. The ICs offer built-in protection which help designers implement interfaces cost-effectively to support their required blend of USB features. These can include power negotiation, managed active cables, and support for guest protocols. USB Type-C specifies reversible plug orientation and cable direction, which simplifies attaching and powering a...
Low-power turnkey pedometer comes with embedded functionality
ROHM Group company Kionix has added embedded functionality to its line of high-performance accelerometers. The new KX126 tri-axis accelerometer integrates a step detector and step counter. According to Nader Sadrzadeh, Kionix’s CEO, “As the applications for sensors grow, we look for use cases that become widespread enough to warrant embedding algorithms and functionality directly into our sensors.
DC-AC inverters with battery charger and UPS function
Powersolve has just announced its EPS series of DC/AC inverters which are a low cost DC and AC input sine wave inverter featuring an integral battery charger for UPS function. DC input options available are 12V, 24V and 48V. AC input is 175-264VAC and AC output can be ordered set to either 220 or 230VAC.
Triac-dimmable constant voltage power supplies suit LED applications
Schukat has added Self Electronics' SLD75 triac-dimmable constant voltage power supplies to its range of power products, suitable for leading edge or trailing edge dimming. Self Electronics has developed these 75W triac-dimmable power supplies especially for LED applications in constant voltage operation without a separate control cable for dimming. Schukat has now introduced the SLD75-12VL-E and SLD75-24VL-E models to its range as a retrofi...
