Ultrasonic MCUs are making electronic water meters smarter
Texas Instruments has unveiled a new family of MSP430 microcontrollers (MCUs) with an integrated ultrasonic sensing analogue front end that enables smart water meters to deliver higher accuracy and lower power consumption. In addition, TI introduced two new reference designs that make it easier to design modules for adding Automated Meter Reading (AMR) capabilities to existing mechanical water meters.
Modules improve embedded edge computing
congatec has announced the launch of the conga-B7AC, a new Intel Atom C3000 processor based COM Express Type 7 Server-on-Module that raises the bar for embedded edge computing through 10 GbE bandwidth support. With a power consumption starting at only 11 Watt, the new low-power multicore Server-on-Modules with up to 16 cores offer up to 4x 10 GbE real-time capable network performance.
IoT solutions offered by microcontroller duo
The ADuCM3027 and ADuCM3029 ultra-low-power microcontrollers from Analog Devices boast a high ULPBench certified score of 245.5 points, and are designed to enable longer battery life and lower operating costs in Internet of Things (IoT) applications without sacrificing security and reliability.
ESS will present the CANgineLight FMS at NUFAM 2017
As a further development to the CANgine and whose 8-bit controller is slightly outdated by now. ESS will be presenting the CANgineLight at NUFAM in Karlsruhe from 28th September to 1st October 2017.
In-circuit debugger boasts faster processor and increased RAM
The MPLAB ICD 4 in-circuit debugger from Microchip is available at RS Components. It is an In-Circuit programming and Debugging (ICD) development tool for PIC microcontrollers, including the latest PIC32C MCUs, and Microchip’s portfolio of dsPIC digital signal controllers, via the MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
Microcontroller market revenue will reach $18.8bn by 2024
In the report, 'Microcontroller Market by Application (Automotive, Industrial, Consumer Goods, Communications, Computer), by Product Type (8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit), Industry trends, estimation & forecast, 2015 - 2024', the global Microcontroller market was valued at $9.80bn in 2016, and is projected to reach $18.8bn by 2024, growing at a CAGR of 8.6% from 2017 to 2024.
Silicon chip boosts battery power
EU-funded scientists have found a way to boost battery power by using scaled-down microsupercapacitors on a silicon chip. The need for extended battery power is understood by mobile phone users and is also crucial for other mobile applications such as autonomous vehicles. While batteries are bulky, high performance electrochemical storage devices can deliver an energy boost to complement batteries and extend their power.
The bumblebee backpacks that weigh less than a raindrop
An ecologist and a micro-systems engineer from Bangor University, are working together to create micro-backpacks for bees which are powered by their own electric energy. As they fly from plant to plant collecting nectar, the insects will be followed by small drones so that the scientists can track and study them.
Expanded custom programming service includes AVR and SAM MCUs
In order to include AVR and SAM microcontrollers (MCUs), Microchip Technology has expanded its custom programming service. For the first time ever, users can add their custom code to MCUs from more than 30 AVR and SAM families, along with nearly all PIC MCUs and memory devices, directly from the manufacturer via microchipDIRECT. Microchip claims to be the only company in the industry that provides an online custom programming service to all of it...
Industrial Micro SD cards conform to SD 3.0 specifications
In response to the growth trend of mobile and wearable devices, memory manufacturer Apacer has launched industrial Micro SD/Micro SDHC memory cards which conform to SD 3.0 specifications. Although the size is only one-tenth of general SD card, the Micro SD/Micro SDHC memory cards have a complete range of product types, providing SLC and MLC chips for choice. The highly reliable SLC chips have capacities ranging from 256MB to 8GB, which best ...
