Toshiba has expanded its family of mobile peripheral device (MPD) ICs with the TC358751XBG, which provides the interface between a mobile device’s host processor and embedded displays as well as external equipment, such as a TV-set or projector.
Toshiba’s new IC incorporates a 48Mbit frame buffer supporting up to 1080p video resolution, as well as a variety of image processing functions including scaling, rotation, cropping and colour format conversion. The buffer content can be rendered simultaneously on two displays (typically with different content) and external equipment.

The TC358751XBG IC offers host connectivity in the form of MIPI® DBI (Display Bus Interface) Type B and MIPI® DSI (Display Serial Interface) as well as I2S / TDM audio inputs. Output consists of two MIPI DSI interfaces, and the HDMI / DVI port (including HDMI1.4 3D support).

By incorporating the TC358751XBG into their mobile products manufacturers can provide users with significantly enhanced display capabilities. A phone LCD screen, for example, could be used as a user interface while an external monitor or projector displays the workspace. Alternatively, a television could be used to display a high definition picture or 3D content while the user browses through a picture gallery using the display on the mobile device.

The TC358751XBG HD TVout and buffer device operates from a single 1.8V source and is supplied in a 7.0 x 7.0mm 113 pin 0.5mm pitch ball grid array (BGA) package.
