Reverse path amplifier targets DOCSIS 3.0/3.1 applications

MACOM’s integrated two stage differential amplifier for DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 reverse path infrastructure equipment is designed for customers who require a highly linear variable gain amplifier (VGA) solution for network access equipment and Head-ends in the Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) system.

This device offers 39dB of gain and 3dB of noise figure with 31.5dB attenuation range all delivered in a single 7mm RoHS compliant PQFN package.

The MAAM-011186 is an integrated two stage differential amplifier with embedded digital step attenuator. The amplifier delivers 36dB MER performance loaded with 39 channels at 52dBmV per channel. Nominal power dissipation is a low 2.2watts in a small 7mm PQFN package making this an ideal solution for high density cards and compact system amplifiers. It is an ideal solution to replace legacy discrete solutions.

“The MAAM-011186 greatly simplifies reverse path amplifier design by integrating 39dB of Gain with a 6 bit digital step attenuator (DSA) in a single 7mm PQFN package,” said Graham Board, Product Line Manager, Networks and Wired Broadband. “This part will help to future proof systems by covering existing reverse path bands along with the new high band reverse path for DOCSIS 3.1. Combining MACOM’s MMIC expertise with in-house balun solutions, allows us to deliver a truly market leading system solution” 

Covering 5 to 300 MHz, this device delivers 22dB of input and output return loss. The device can function off either an 8V or 5V voltage supply to provide the ultimate versatility to the system designer.
