Measuring just 1.6x1.1x0.5mm, Fox Electronics has announced the introduction of its most compact watch crystal. Although smaller in size, the FX161 crystal operates at many of the same high standards as previous models, making it one of the most efficient tuning forks yet. The crystal’s ultra-low profile and exceptional performance optimises the minimal space available in many portable and handheld applications, including wearables.

The watch crystal sustains a maximum of 90kΩ equivalent series resistance and an insulation resistance of 500MΩ at 100VDC. The SMD crystal operates at a frequency of 32.768kHz. Frequency tolerance is ±20ppm at 25°C with a long term of -0.046ppm per Delta C2. Standard load capacitance is 12.5pF, with optional 7 or 9pF available.

The tuning fork ages only ±3ppm in the first year and features a termination finish of gold over nickel. Overall operating temperature range is from -40 to +85°C with a turnover temperature range of +20 to +30°C and a storage temperature from -55 to +125°C. Maximum soldering is 10 seconds at 260°C.

The ultra-low profile FX161 watch crystal comes in a standard tape and reel containing 3,000 pieces and is RoHS compliant.
