HD Media used in high capacity HDDs
Denko (SDK) announces that its HD media has been adopted in helium filled 10 terabyte hard disk drives (HDDs).
Isolated error amplifiers feature programmable shunt references
IXYS Integrated Circuits Division (ICD) announced the availability of the LIA135 and LIA136 low voltage optically isolated error amplifiers each with an integrated programmable precision shunt reference incorporated into a single 8-pin package.
Power protection simplified for enterprises with PRS System
AEG Power Solutions has introduced the PRS (Power Rack Solution) UPS system, specifically developed to meet the needs of small and medium size companies to protect their IT assets from mains power failures. The PRS system features an efficient, high-performance UPS (Protect D.6000 or Protect D.10000 model) integrated into a rack, where IT equipment such as routers or servers can then be added.
6A DC/DC converter features I²C-based PMBus interface
Featuring an I²C-based PMBus interface for digital Power System Management (PSM), a high efficiency 6A monolithic synchronous step-down DC/DC converter has been introduced by Linear Technology. The LTC3815’s simplified and intuitive PMBus “Lite” command set makes it simple to use. The digital interface provides programming and read back of voltage, current, temperature and faults; all supported by LTpowerPlay software.
1W DC/DC converters provide 6.4kVDC isolation
Offering up to 6.4kVDC isolation between the input and output for 1 second, two series of 1W DC/DC converters have been unveiled by RECOM. The RK/H6 and RH/H6 series are a reliable choice for a wide range of low-power applications in industrial electronics, measuring technology and sensor systems where high isolation voltage is particularly important.
Creating the internet of low power things
Reducing power consumption is a major challenge facing the IoT. Steve Rogerson looks at the techniques being employed. Some extremely large figures have been bandied around for the number of devices that will eventually make up the Internet-of-Things as research companies try to outdo each other in their predictions.
Battery protection IC uses high voltage CMOS process
The new AP9234L battery protection IC from Diodes Incorporated is now being shipped by distributor Mouser Electronics. This single-chip protection solution provides a rich set of protection features for single-cell lithium-ion or lithium-polymer rechargeable battery packs in smartphones, cameras, and other electronic equipment.
DC electronic load reduces rack space by 50%
Intepro Systems, a market leader in power component and power system automated test equipment (ATE), introduces the EL 9000 B Series of electronic DC loads. The EL 9000 B Series is offered in 15 models with rated peak power from 1,200 to 7,200W.
Chassis socket boasts 10A current carrying capacity
Lumberg has added two models to its portfolio of DC power supply connectors, boasting a current carrying capacity of up to 10A. Geared specifically towards applications requiring high tensile forces which simultaneously rely on high rated currents of up to 10A for the low voltage range, the connectors comprise a chassis socket and matching power supply.
NiMH wireless charger-receiver targets hearing aids
Expanding its offerings in wireless battery charging, Linear Technology has announced the LTC4123 which combines a 30mW wireless receiver with a constant-current/constant-voltage linear charger for NiMH batteries. An external resonant LC tank connected to the LTC4123 enables the IC to receive power wirelessly from an alternating magnetic field generated by a transmit coil.
