5V, 8A 1×1 DC/DC converter provides 40W of output power
Semiconductor Circuits introduces the “Cool Power Technologies” ultra-wide input range 5V, 8A (40W) 1×1 DC/DC converter. This open frame or optional encapsulated module provides 40W of output power at an output voltage of 5VDC. The CP40 series is the only 40W 1×1 4:1 input module available on the market today (a 12V version is also available).
High-purity metals recovered from battery waste
Researchers at Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) have succeeded in recovering important metals – lithium, cobalt and nickel – from battery waste with nearly 100% purity. Recovered metals will be needed increasingly in the manufacture of batteries, and in the future especially in batteries of electric vehicles. Researchers have been able to extract cobalt at 99.6 percent purity, nickel at 99.7% purity, and lithium at 99.9% pu...
Primary switched AC/DC power modules suit worldwide use
MTM Power's PMAS15 and PCMAS15 series of primary switched AC/DC power modules have been designed as universal compact power supplies with AC/DC wide input ranges (90-264 VAC, 100-300 VDC) for worldwide application. They are available with single output voltages of 5, 12, 15, 24 and 48VDC. The series offers 15W constant output wattage, is short circuit protected, needs no ground load and features reduced stand-by power.
Graphene nano-device could increase energy efficiency
A graphene-based electrical nano-device has been created which could substantially increase the energy efficiency of fossil fuel-powered cars. The nano-device, known as a 'ballistic rectifier', is able to convert heat which would otherwise be wasted from the car exhaust and engine body into a useable electrical current. Parts of car exhausts can reach temperatures of 600 degrees Celsius. The recovered energy can then be used to power additional a...
Single-chip load switch ICs reduce power consumption
Featuring on-resistance ratings down to just 63mΩ, three single-chip load switch ICs have been introduced by Toshiba Electronics Europe. The TCK106AF, TCK107AF and TCK108AF integrate high performance chips in an industry-standard SOT-25 package and offer low typical quiescent currents of 110nA with low loss, low standby current and high performance switching characteristics.
42V, 3.5A sync buck regulator operates up to 175°C
Linear announces the LT8610AX, a 3.5A, 42V input capable synchronous step-down switching regulator, which operates in ambient temperatures up to 175°C. Synchronous rectification delivers efficiency as high as 95% while Burst Mode operation keeps quiescent current under 3.5µA in no-load standby conditions.
MOSFETs cover full range of applications
A wide range of MOSFET devices from power semiconductor specialist MagnaChip Semiconductor is now available from Diamond Power Components. Located in South Korea, MagnaChip was spun out of an LG Semiconductor and Hyundai Semiconductor joint venture for power devices. MagnaChip uses its own wafer fabs to produce in excess of 130,000 eight inch wafers per month.
Ensuring engineers get a good night’s sleep
The power industry is changing, as complex and compact electronic products and systems have driven demand for ever smaller, more efficient and cost effective power systems. Vicor is reacting to these changes, and Electronic Specifier Editor Joe Bush spoke to the company’s VP, Global Sales & Marketing, Phil Davies, about its new direction and the benefits this offers to power system design engineers.
IoT power needs mirror energy harvesting systems
At the low end of the power spectrum are the nanopower conversion requirements of energy harvesting systems such as those commonly found in IoT equipment, which necessitate the use of power conversion ICs that deal in very low levels of power and current. These can be tens of microwatts and nanoamps of current, respectively. Tony Armstrong, Director of Product Marketing Power Products, Linear Technology Corporation explains.
SiC and GaN technologies lead the way at PCIM 2016
This year’s PCIM exhibition introduced a whole host of new power products, technologies and applications. Sally Ward-Foxton reports from Nuremberg. This year’s PCIM (power conversion, intelligent motion) exhibition in Nuremberg brought together 436 exhibitors and more than 10,000 visitors from around the world to share the latest in power products, technologies and applications.
