Common mode chokes enable streamlined electronic designs
With increasing power densities needing to be supported in modern electronics hardware, ensuring adequate EMI suppression is of greater importance than ever. As well as being fully operationally effective, common mode chokes must also exhibit compact form factors in order to address increasingly acute space constraints.
Definite purpose medium-voltage drive introduced by Danfoss
Enhancing its current portfolio of low- and high-power AC drives, Danfoss has introduced the VACON 3000 drive to offer a robust, reliable easy-to-integrate solution for medium-voltage applications. The VACON 3000 drive is a modular drive solution for medium-voltage applications, which are prevalent in industries such as mobile equipment in mining, marine, oil and gas, energy and metals.
µModule regulator has 3D stacked-inductor packaging
Linear Technology introduces the LTM4636, a 40A step-down µModule switching regulator with 3D construction for quicker heat dissipation and cooler operation in a small package. By stacking its inductor on top of a 16mm x 16mm BGA package, the LTM4636 benefits from the exposed inductor as a heat sink, permitting direct contact with airflow from any direction to cool the device.
Power adapters fit US, UK, Europe, Australia plug formats
Availability of 18W and 24W power adapters with interchangeable input pins for US, UK, European and Australian plug formats is announced by Luso Electronics. They can be used with telecom equipment, computers, industrial controllers and office automation (OA) systems. Also available with Chinese and Korean inlet plug tops, the RoHS-compliant wall-mounted plug adapters made by Taiwan’s Adapter Technology in a range of voltages between 5V to ...
Medical grade MLCCs enable OEMs to change controls
A series of Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs) for medical applications has been released by AVX Corporation. Designed for use in medical devices that require significantly less parametric flexibility than commercial capacitors offer, but stop short of demanding the stringent features of fully qualified medical capacitors.
Nuclear batteries mean 'diamond-age' of power generation
Latest technology has been developed that uses nuclear waste to generate electricity in a nuclear-powered battery. A team of physicists and chemists from the University of Bristol have grown a man-made diamond that, when placed in a radioactive field, is able to generate a small electrical current. The development could solve some of the problems of nuclear waste, clean electricity generation and battery life.
Nanopower operational amplifier maximises battery and sensor life
The industry’s first precision nanopower operational amplifiers (op amps) have been introduced by Texas Instruments (TI). The LPV811 and LPV812 consume quiescent current as low as 320nA and are part of a family of four new ultra-low-power op amps. Up to 60% lower power consumption than competitive precision op amps and offset voltage as low as 300µV, the new family of op amps extends battery and sensor life for applications such ...
Li-ion battery challengers: how to access the market?
Today, there is a relatively large variety of different battery technologies that can challenge Li-ion batteries. Under its report entitled Beyond Li-ion Batteries: Present & Future Li-ion Technology Challengers, Yole Développement (Yole) identifies: NAS, Li-S, Na-ion, Mg-ion, Li-air, zinc-air and flow batteries and LIC. Some of these technologies are at the R&D stage and some are already in commercial production.
Live test featuring truck and paraglider to be premiered
A paraglider and a Volvo FH are about to go on a breath-taking journey in Volvo Trucks’ Live Test - ‘The Flying Passenger’. The truck needs to keep the paraglider in the air while giving it a lift uphill, on winding mountain roads, so to succeed the truck must maintain speed. ‘The Flying Passenger’ will premiere on November 29th on Volvo Trucks’ digital platforms.
DIN-rail power supplies offer 120 & 240W power output
A DIN-rail power supply series rated at 120 and 240W has been added to RECOM's existing range. The power supplies support brief peaks of 50% above rating, and the modules can be connected in parallel to increase the output power available or for redundancy. The two versions operate at input voltages ranging from 85-264VAC for worldwide usage, and are equipped with an active PFC circuit for a power factor greater than 0.95.
