Accelerate BLE wireless-sensing projects for Android or iOS
Designed to shorten time-to-market for BLE wireless-sensing projects targeting Android or iOS platforms, STMicroelectronics announces the BlueMicrosystem1 Open.Framework. BlueMicrosystem1 provides a complete solution for applications that need to sense, process and transmit temperature, humidity, pressure and/or movement/location data.
VectorCAST/CBA allows users to achieve the mandated 100% code coverage
Vector Software have announced the availability of VectorCAST/CBA, which allows users in regulated industries to augment measured coverage with manual analysis to achieve the mandated 100% code coverage. VectorCAST/CBA is available as an add-on for all VectorCAST products and provides an intuitive editor, which allows users to provide analysis for statements, branch outcomes, or MC/DC pairs depending on the coverage level.
Oculus Rift dev kit enables anywhere, anytime VR
The team behind Facebook-owned Oculus Rift has announced that Gear VR Innovator Edition, the first development kit for Gear VR, is now available for purchase from Samsung online, for developers in the US (with additional regions to follow). It’s still early days for mobile VR, but budding developers can use Gear VR to begin building inspiring experiences now.
Embedded databases for embedded systems
The increase in the power, complexity and prevalence of embedded systems means they are handling more data and, consequently, increasingly using databases. The traditional solution has been to run this on a separate PC or mainframe in the loop; today, the database can run within the system. By Chris Hills, CTO, Phaedrus Systems.
Take advantage of pre-layout simulation & simultaneous process design
As designs become more complex and time-to-market schedules become more demanding, engineers must take advantage of pre-layout simulation and simultaneous process design in order to beat the competition. By Barry Olney, CEO, In-Circuit Design Pty Ltd.
IP speeds development of wireless sensor IoT applications
Linear Technology’s SmartMesh IPTM wireless sensor networking products now provide the ability to programme industrial IoT applications directly on the embedded ARM Cortex-M3, running Micrium’s µC/OS-II RTOS. Users no longer need a separate processor for sensor interface and edge data analytics, reducing the cost, footprint and power consumption of the integrated wireless sensor node.
Better design tools are needed for MCU-based devices
The rise of configurability in MCU-based devices has increased the need for better graphical design tools. By Mark Saunders, Cypress Semiconductor.
Cocos2d-x optimised for MIPS-based devices
Imagination Technologies and Chukong, creator of the open source game engine Cocos2d-x, have announced that the latest version of Cocos2d-x has been optimised to run on devices with Imagination’s MIPS CPUs or PowerVR GPUs. More than 400,000 developers worldwide, including developers of seven out of the ten top grossing games in China, rely on Cocos2d-x to build their mobile games.
An intuitive graphical approach to link design
VPIphotonics has announced VPIlinkDesigner as a replacement for, and enhancement to, the usual tedious manual network design. While enabling the placement of photonic items such as EDFAs and dispersion compensating elements, VPIlinkDesigner provides performance analysis every step of the way. Thus, the user obtains an instant calculation of numerous performance metrics for each channel, as elements are placed in the design.
Free software suite offers accurate dynamic simulations
STMicroelectronics has announced TwisterSIM, a unique free software suite that includes a smart interactive selector and a dynamic electro-thermal simulator. The TwisterSIM electro-thermal simulator eases the evaluation of ST’s low and high-side drivers and H-bridges for motor control through accurate simulations with accurate dynamic simulations of load-compatibility, wiring-harness optimisation, fault condition impact analysis, diagn...
