Faster template creation & simplified standardisation
Faster template creation and simplified standardisation are amongst the many benefits provided by version 2.5 of EPLAN’s CAE software. A new navigator facilitates the creation and editing of electrical and fluid power engineering macros, while the expanded terminal editor and streamlined cable planning for machines/plants with EPLAN FieldSys make designing even more intuitive and convenient.
Windows 10 IoT Core targets Raspberry Pi & Minnowboard Max
Microsoft has released the Windows 10 IoT Core for the Raspberry Pi and the Minnowboard Max. Designed to make it easy to build professional grade devices, the core is suitable for small, embedded devices that may or may not have screens. For devices with screens, the Windows 10 IoT Core does not have a Windows shell experience; instead the user can write a Universal Windows app that acts as the interface for their device.
Speedstack PCB system now available in multiple languages
Polar Instruments has launched new language versions of Speedstack, the industry’s best-selling PCB layer stackup design system. In addition to English, Speedstack is now available in German, Japanese, simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese versions.
Surge in use of Freescale Vybrid for medical applications
From laboratory instruments to personal medical devices to hospital equipment, use of Freescale Vybrid has surged onto the embedded medical device landscape lately. Altia has had a solution for Vybrid since before the target was publicly available, so it’s a natural choice for those looking to put GUIs into a Vybrid-based product. However, recent activity has been far greater than in previous years.
Unmanned ship to sail across the Atlantic in 2020
Plymouth University is aspiring to build the first full-sized autonomous unmanned ship to sail across the Atlantic in 2020. Designed and developed in collaboration with internationally acclaimed and award-winning partners, the Mayflower Autonomous Research Ship (MARS) will emulate the pioneering spirit and courage of the original Mayflower voyage.
Filtering & µAP operation mode for CAN-over-IP Gateway
Peak System has released a software update, introducing Filtering and µAP Operation Mode, for its CAN over IP Gateway range. The PCAN-Gateway product line allows the connection of various CAN busses over IP networks. CAN frames are wrapped into TCP or UDP message packets and then forwarded from one device to another.
Programmable Bluetooth module aids medical applications
The CYBLE-022001-00 EZ-BLE PRoC Module from Cypress Semiconductor is now in stock at distributor Mouser Electronics. The programmable, SMT-ready, fully certified Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) module eliminates RF hardware design and reduces investment by eliminating the certification process. The integration and small footprint of the CYBLE-022001-00 make it ideal for medical, home entertainment, and computing applications.
Debug platform captures "an eternity in the boot process"
The first debug platform to provide real insight from Intel Trace Hub to debug the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) that initialises system hardware and software has been introduced by Asset InterTech. SourcePoint can tap into both hardware and software sources of trace information to show engineers the exact code execution flow and system message execution information.
A one chip IoT solution
A one chip IoT solution for wireless connectivity has been released by Zilog. The MG2475, which expands the company’s wireless technologies family of 8-16-32-bit MCUs, is a true 2.4GHz SoC designed for low-power and very low-cost applications based on IEEE802.15.4 and RF4CE.
Emprog ThunderBench supports STM's discovery kit
Phaedrus Systems has announced that the Emprog ThunderBench C/C++ development tool suite now supports the STM32F746NGH6 discovery kit, which includes the STM32F7 MCU core.
