A compact dual IGBT-driver core has been introduced by Power Integrations. Featuring a footprint of only 57.2x51.6mm and a height of just 20mm, the 2SC0435T2G1-17 is the company’s smallest product in its power range.

The featured SCALE-2+ technology enables Soft Shut Down (SSD) to be implemented in the event of a short circuit without requiring additional components. This is particularly beneficial in applications with low stray-inductance where full Advanced Active Clamping (AAC) may not be required. If desired, the core can also provide full AAC. Designed to drive all standard 1200V and 1700V IGBTs, the 2SC0435T2G1-17 features an embedded parallelling capability to simplify inverter design at high power ratings. Multi-level topologies are also supported.

The driver core combines a complete two-channel driver core with all components required for driving, such as a galvanic isolated DC/DC converter, short-circuit protection, AAC or SSD and under-voltage lock out on both the primary and secondary sides. An EMC-robust design enables safe and reliable operation in even harsh industrial environments. Each of the two output channels is electrically isolated from the primary side and the secondary channel. An output current of ±35A peak and 4W drive power at 85°C is available per channel and the turn-on voltage is regulated to maintain a stable +15V regardless of the output power level.

The 2SC0435T2G1-17 dual IGBT-driver core features a connector pin length of 3.1mm, making it suitable for PCB thicknesses of 2mm. The driver core is RoHS-compatible and UL508C and UL 60950-1 recognised. Creepage and clearances fulfill IEC60664-1 for reinforced insulation OV2 and PD2.

Michael Hornkamp, Senior Director, High-Power Products, Power Integrations, commented: “Our highly integrated SCALE-2 technology eliminates around 85% of the components required by conventional drivers, resulting in a smaller, more reliable, cost-effective product.”
