CISSOID, a leader in high temperature semiconductor solutions, has unveiled ETNA, the industry's first DC-DC Converter Reference Design suitable for operation from -55°C up to +225°C. This reference design is the first product of a family of DC-DC converters named VOLCANO. It implements a buck (step down) DC-DC converter with proven CISSOID products as active components. ETNA offers the smartest solution for energy-sensitive applications in highly demanding applications requiring reliable and continuous operation at 200°C and above.
CISSOID's DC-DC buck converter can provide output voltages going from 2.5V to 10V while driving loads from 10mA to 1A across the entire operating temperature range. ETNA brings efficiency of over 80% at 200°C. Its input voltage can extend from 7V to 30V while providing very good line regulation (1mV/V), load regulation (5mV/A) as well as output voltage drift with temperature (150µV/K). The architecture includes Input Voltage Feedforward enabling very good DC line regulation and a fast response to input transients.

ETNA is a DC-DC converter design that fits market requirements for oil & gas, aeronautics, space and industrial applications with a large temperature range. Depending on specific customer needs, ETNA can be implemented with packaged components on a high-temperature Printed Circuit Board, or as a Multi-Chip-Module on the basis of bare dies. Further integrated solutions are under development.
