C&K Components, a leading international supplier of tact switches, toggle, rocker and pushbutton switches and smart card interconnect devices, now offers its micro-miniature, snap-acting detect switch in four new surface-mount options. Designated the MDS Series, the detect switch is available in vertical and right-angle PCB mount and through-hole versions which now include surface-mount options of left with pins, left with no pins, right with pins and right with no pins. The MDS Series is ideal for use in telecom, medical, consumer, and other applications where detecting the presence of a mechanical device is required.

The MDS Series is a good fit for datacom, computer and telecom applications, particularly where they are being used to detect a handle mechanism, said David Webber, director of product management for C&K Components. With these four new options, the series is available in more than a dozen termination styles that allow them to be designed into an array of end-products.

The MDS with the surface bracket ensures a robust right-angle engagement with handle mechanisms or enclosures. C&K offers designers the ability to have an SMT surface plate or an SMT surface plate with alignment posts, opening from the right or left.

The small-package MDS Series is RoHS-compliant and provides a 200 mohms contact resistance. The snap-acting tactile feel switches offer a long total travel of 2.9mm and a contact rating of 0.3A @ 6VDC. The mechanical and electrical life is 10,000 operations while copper alloy and silver plating ensure durability with an operating force of 65g and an operating temperature of -25°C to +70° C.
