Radiocrafts AS, a leading provider of compact RF modules, now expand their product line with a compact ZigBee PRO Network Module (ZNM) for use in ZigBee based mesh networks. The ZNM module offers the complete ZigBee PRO network protocol in a small module with an easy to use API interface. By using the new ZNM module, ZigBee applications can be built with minimum effort, reducing time to market.
ZigBee is a standard for monitoring and control applications using low power radio networking. The standard is becoming increasingly popular as a basis for wireless mesh networks.

The new wireless module is targeting applications like industrial sensor networks, building automation and home automation systems. This is the smallest all-embedded module designed for ZigBee offered in the market, also available in a high power version for extended range.

The RC2400-ZNM and RC2400HP-ZNM modules are compact surface-mounted high performance modules measuring only 12.7 x 25.4 x 3.3 mm including EMC shielding. The module is delivered on tape and reel for volume production.

The module is very easy to use having a UART or SPI interface for serial communication and configuration. The ZigBee application runs in any external controller, communicating with the module by an easy-to-use API. With only 10 API calls, a complete application can be made. The new module supports all features of the ZigBee PRO standard.

The ZNM modules are pre-certified for operation under the European, FCC and ARIB radio regulations for license-free use. It operates at 16 channels in the 2.45 GHz frequency band. The RC2400-ZNM is ideal for use in battery operated systems providing a sleep mode current consumption of less than 1 uA. The RC2400HP-ZNM adds significant range with 100 mW output power and an impressive 119 dB system link budget in the same package.

“The ZigBee Network Module is another proof of our dedication to making RF easy. We have integrated a complex mesh network protocol into a tiny module. The emerging wireless sensor market and the ZigBee standard have created a huge demand for this product”, says Peder Martin Evjen, Managing Director.

“OEM manufacturers, system integrators and application designers can now get a complete ZigBee solution in a small compact module form-factor that is easy to integrate into any product. Manufacturers without RF design knowledge can now easily add a fully compliant ZigBee solution to their space limited products, and significantly reduce time-to-market and development cost”, says Ørjan Nottveit, Product Line Manager.

The module, Demo Kits and PC development tools are available now.
