Maxim has introduced the MAX14502, a Hi-Speed USB-to-SD card bridge that increases read/write speed by up to 40x in portable electronics. This IC bypasses the slow processor of Original (full-speed) USB applications, servicing the data transfer with an integrated processor. The MAX14502 thus eliminates the time-consuming and complicated task of developing a software driver, allowing designers to effortlessly add Hi-Speed USB to their applications. This device is well suited for consumer electronics such as cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players, DSCs, and GPS devices.
The MAX14502 supports SDHC, and can operate with either one or two SD card ports. This IC preserves valuable I/Os by allowing simple control through one GPIO, or an I2C interface for the 2-port option.

This device is fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range and is available in lead-free packages. The 1-port version is packaged in a 5mm x 5mm, 40-pin TQFN, while the 2-port version is available in a 3.23mm x 3.5mm, 56-bump WLP (wafer-level package). Prices start at $7.00 (1000-up, FOB USA).
