The touchless gesture control system from Crunchfish has been selected by Avantis Systems, a provider of technical solutions for schools, for its educational platform ClassVR.com.

The license agreement is a three year contract with a royalty revenue per sold device and an upfront payment. UK-based Avantis focuses on simplifying education in classrooms by providing hardware and services tailored for educational purposes. Its new VR headset, which is a part of ClassVR.com, offers an education method and a new learning experience. Initially Avantis plans to offer its headset to 26,000 middle schools in the UK, followed by a global roll-out.

“We chose Crunchfish as a partner since together we can create an inspiring and true user friendly interaction in VR. We are impressed by the responsiveness and accuracy of the gestures, and the feedback of the gesture interaction from our users has been very positive. We offer something unique that will increase the efficiency and experience of learning,” said Nik Tuson, CEO of Avantis Education.

The gestures will be used for navigating and controlling menus. Crunchfish’s Touchless A3D software is optimised for VR with gestures specifically developed for VR interaction.

“Our partnership with Avantis has strategic importance to Crunchfish, since it opens up a new market segment and shows the advantages of gesture interaction in VR. Educational VR has a huge potential in changing the way we educate people and we are excited to be working with

Avantis and contribute to this change. The partnership is also a confirmation of gestures as a natural way to interact in VR environments.” added Joakim Nydemark, CEO of Crunchfish.

The education area is predicted to be one of the top areas for VR as the user and tutorial benefits are believed to be substantial. The global education technology market will reach $252bn by 2020 according to the 2016 Global EdTech Report.
