Verigy, a semiconductor test company, has announced it has been awarded the 2009 Product Innovation of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan for its V6000 tester platform. Introduced in late 2008, the V6000 enables testing of both flash and DRAM memory on the same platform, at breakthrough cost-of-test. The V6000 is versatile and scalable across the entire semiconductor memory test process, including engineering, wafer sort and final test.
“This recognition from Frost & Sullivan underscores the forward-thinking innovation that the semiconductor manufacturers have been asking for,” said Gayn Erickson, Vice President of Memory, Verigy. “The V6000 delivers four times the parallelism at half the cost per pin and enables one-touchdown probing. The versatility and scalability of the platform provides customers with the ability to switch between testing NAND or NOR flash, DRAM and multi-chip memories on a single test system by simply changing to a new test program and probe card or a new load board. This flexibility dramatically reduces capital equipment costs, allowing manufacturers the ability to shift production volumes quickly between memory types to respond to changing market conditions.”

“Offering innovative semiconductor test equipment is critical, especially during this downturn,” said Sujan Sami, Industry Manager, Frost & Sullivan. “Not only does the V6000 identify failures, but it also assists in the repair and improvement of the device being tested. Furthermore, the scalability of the platform resonated with the memory manufacturers. Verigy has developed a revolutionary platform that scales over time to greatly extend the useful life of customers’ investments. The V6000 is a testament to Verigy’s innovation capabilities – both technically and financially – and we are pleased to grant this award to the company.”

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation of the Year is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within its industry by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies. To choose a recipient of this Award, the analyst team tracks all new product launches, R&D spending, products in development and new product features and modifications. This is accomplished through interviews with the market participants and extensive secondary and technology research. All new product launches and new products in development in each company are compared and evaluated based on degree of innovation and customer satisfaction. Companies are then ranked by number of new product launches and new products in development and evaluated according to several criteria, including the overall significance of the product in its industry, the product’s competitive advantage and acceptance in the marketplace and in terms of unique or revolutionary technology.
