The GDS 2000 series of digital storage oscilloscopes, just launched by GW Instek, is destined to become the new benchmark for mid-range, general-purpose DSOs. Offering 1GS/s sampling rate, 25k point memory, USB support, TFT liquid crystal display, battery power operation and easy to use software, this range of six instruments delivers impressive performance at highly competitive prices.
Available in the UK from specialist technical instrument distributor, Aspen Electronics, the GDS 2000 series includes 60, 100 and 200MHz bandwidth models in 2 and 4 channel versions. Its modern design, with 5.6in TFT colour display and USB support, will ensure the GDS 2000 becomes the ‘scope of choice for replacing aging analogue and digital models, and makes it suitable for a wide range of applications.

The DSOs feature 27 automatic measurement functions, FFT measurement, advanced triggering facilities, 12 division horizontal display, time clock, frequency counter, go/no go testing, language selection menu, on-board help functions and set-up sequence. Up to 24 waveforms can be stored in memory for later recall and display. Notably, four saved reference waveforms together with four live waveforms can be displayed simultaneously. Similarly, an engineer can call up a snapshot of all time and voltage related auto measurement readings of an input signal.

The provision of two USB host ports and the use of a USB flash drive significantly enhances data storage capability. Easy connection to a PC and printer via the rear USB port facilitates data transfer and print out. RS232 and GPIB interfaces are also available.
The combination of high sampling rate (1GS/s real time, 25Gs/s equivalent time), long record length (25k points) and 4 channel inputs, makes these instruments particularly useful in the industrial sector, for R&D, general purpose test bench, troubleshooting, manufacturing test, and field service applications. The low price tag will ensure they appeal equally to the educational market.

The optional battery power operation extends the application range of the GDS 2000 into field service, repair and maintenance areas, providing 3hours of remote operation between charges (automatic once connected to AC power).

PC software support for the GDS 2000 is freely available to all customers via the Instek website.

Manufactured in Taiwan, the ‘scopes come with a 3 year warranty. All models are available ex-stock from Aspen Electronics, and prices range from £599 for the GDS-2062, 60MHz, 2 channel model to £1265 for the GDS-2204, 200MHz, 4 channel type.
