Leading EMS provider NBS has announced the acquisition and installation of a SPEA high speed flying probe test system in its manufacturing facility located in Santa Clara, California. The addition of the SPEA Model 4040 extends the company’s capabilities across the entire range of test and verification technologies. NBS employs a comprehensive test strategy that is a highly integrated part of its unique manufacturing system that successfully accommodates NPI and volume assembly side by side.
Test capabilities at the firm include advanced AOI, automatic 2D and 3D X‐ray, ICT, FCT, BIT and flying probe technologies. They also offer test program development, boundary scan development and test, fixture design and manufacturing and a range of diagnostic and rework test services. NBS Director of Test, Peter Chipman commented on the new installation: “Adding the flying probe platform enables us to offer an even more comprehensive suite of test and inspection strategies and tailor them to best meet the requirements dictated by the product designs of our unique and varied customer base. Our evaluation of the competitive flying probe systems in the market was comprehensive, and we believe that SPEA will provide us with the highest test quality and the lowest cost of test.”

Flying probe testing eliminates the need to invest in costly NRE for test fixtures required by ICT. Shrinking component geometries and lack of testability are increasingly frequent design characteristics of today’s PCBA’s and flying probe technology can offer a test solution and fault diagnostic capabilities not available in other test methodologies. They have continued to grow their business throughout these tough economic times which is a reflection of both the vision in their business model and their strong leadership”.
