A new module transforms the Rohde & Schwarz R&S VTx video tester family into a comprehensive and flexible platform for HDMI 2.0a and HDR testing. The new module offers generator and analyser characteristics for data rates of up to 18Gbit/s as well as functions introduced with the new HDMI standard, such as scrambling. It is backward compatible with HDMI 1.4 and therefore replaces the existing HDMI modules in the product portfolio.

It supports both HDCP 1.4 and HDCP 2.2 and covers realtime protocol testing and compliance testing in line with HDMI CTS 1.4/2.0. The new solution gives users a test tool that can be used in various applications throughout the consumer electronics value chain.

All important tests are covered. The generator function can be used to edit the Dynamic Range and Mastering InfoFrame specifically for HDR. It displays the enhanced extended display identification data (E-EDID) of the connected sink, including the HDR metadata block.

It also permits the playback of customer-specific, uncompressed moving picture sequences. The analyser unit provides suitable E-EDID and displays the Dynamic Range and Mastering InfoFrame. HDR-CTS tests are available for both the generator and the analyser.

Future enhancements will be provided at an attractive price via software, and the modules can simply be swapped out. In addition to protocol tests, users can perform electrical tests on HDMI sources for debugging and precompliance purposes, and also analyse video and audio content.

The platform's versatile test capabilities simplify testing of consumer electronics products by eliminating the need for costly test setups with other instruments.

Rohde & Schwarz will present its T&M solutions at CES 2016 in Las Vegas (January 6 to January 9)
