Ahead of embedded world 2017, Rutronik has teamed up with Chemnitz University of Technology to demonstrate that impedance spectroscopy for lithium-ion batteries is not just restricted to the laboratory.

Rutronik, in cooperation with Chemnitz University of Technology and the Chair for Measurement and Sensor Technology (MST), will be using an embedded impedance measuring system for a 12V Li-ion battery stack to present the latest research from the field of impedance measurement based on impedance spectroscopy.

This method provides more thorough and exact analysis and diagnosis of battery systems than currently applied procedures. It is even possible to determine the condition of batteries e.g. to reliably predict their RUL (Remaining Useful Life) or SoH (State of Health). It is, therefore, a particularly interesting method for mobile systems, especially for electromobility, professional tools, and mobile robots, as well as for medical instruments and UPS.

At present, impedance spectroscopy is only used under laboratory conditions. However, the demonstrator allows Rutronik, working alongside Chemnitz University of Technology and the Chair for Measurement and Sensor Technology (MST), to showcase the method’s full industrial potential.

The researchers Thomas Günther and Leonhard Faulhammer (both from Chemnitz University of Technology) and Andreas Mangler (Rutronik) will be on hand at embedded world 2017 to answer any questions you may have (Rutronik Hall 3A, Booth 438).
