A low-power USM-MEMS-VOC sensor module from Unitronic that enables an especially rapid detection of different Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the air will make its debut at SENSOR+TEST 2015 in Nuremberg (19th to 21st May). The Unitronic Sensor Module (USM) measures just 15x17x3mm.

It is equipped with a high-precision, long-term stable TGS 8100 miniature Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) sensor from Figaro and it reacts within less than 8 seconds to the release of harmful gases. The current consumption in continuous operation is less than 14mA.

The module is designed for a supply voltage of 1.8V. As a result of its low current consumption and small size, the sensor module is especially suited for use in battery-operated applications.

A PWM signal for analogue interpretation, three digital outputs, a UART interface, automatic base-level adjustment and automatic humidity/temperature compensation by means of an optional external sensor makes it easy to integrate the USM-MEMS-VOC into a wide range of applications.

For example, in combination with a climate control unit, room ventilation control that automatically reacts to pollutants and unpleasant odours can be realised with the USM-MEMS-VOC.

This concept serves not only to enhance human well-being; it also contributes to optimising energy efficiency of the air conditioning system.
