“The last months have been very active in term of mergers and acquisitions in the CMOS image sensor (CIS) business”, comments Yole Développement (Yole)...

The market research and strategy consulting company, Yole will present its vision of the Imaging industry at the Imaging Conference, “Imaging without Limits”, an ancillary event of SEMICON Europa 2014 . Make sure you will be there to learn more about the imaging world during the conference and meet our experts in the exhibition area (Yole Développement - Booth #226).

The imaging world is changing... This industry is now entering a maturing phase, with strong consolidation among the different market segments. For instance:

-          On Semiconductor has made a series of acquisitions (Truesense and Aptina) to consolidate its leadership in automotive and medical areas.

-          CMOSIS, financially backed by a private equity investor, TA Associates, has acquired Awaiba in order to build a leaders hip in several high end markets.

-          TowerJazz is building in parallel, through internal developments and the partnership with Panasonic, a key specialized foundry’s position for automotive, industrial and medical applications, working with most of the fable ss CIS manufacturers.

-          Omnivision board gets a takeover offer from Hua Capital Management (HCM), a Beijing based investment management company.

“More M&A are coming, as several second tier companies are now threaten by the first mover’s acquisitions, especially in the automotive and medical applications”, says Pierre Cambou, Activity Leader, Imaging at Yole Développement.

Newly appointed, with a strong background in sensor technology for visible and infra-red imaging, Pierre Cambou will drive the imaging activity at Yole.

Pierre will be part of the Imaging Conference and will present the status of the CMOS image sensor (CIS) industry including market data, supply chain, applications...

All these results are part of the technology and market analysis, Status of the CMOS Image Sensor Industry 2014 (2014 edition) and detailed as well in Solid State Medical Imaging:

X-ray & Endoscopy report (To be released Q4, 2014).

Under both reports, Yole highlights the imaging industry evolution.

Indeed, compared to previous years, the CIS industry is growing fast: Yole’s analysts estimate +10% CAGR in revenue between 2013 and 2018. Yole confirms the consolidation of this market thanks to consumer, automotive, medical ... applications as well.  “The CIS market will reach a total value of ~US$13 billion by 2018”, announces Yole, in its technology and market analysis.  Yole will be part of SEMICON Europa 2014 (Booth #226) and present its latest technology & market analysis in Power Electronics, MEMS, Printed & Flexible Electronics, Imaging ...

With a strong focus on emerging applications using silicon and/or micro manufacturing, the company provides marketing, technology, strategy consulting as well as finance services in multiple areas: MEMS, Compound Semiconductors, LED, Image Sensors, Optoelectronics, Microfluidics & Medical, Photovoltaics, Advanced Packaging & Manufacturing, Nanomaterials and Power Electronics.

“SEMICON Europa 2014 is a great opportunity for our company to promote its activities and meet the key players of the semiconductor industry, especially equipment manufacturers and material suppliers. We daily work with industrials from the whole supply chain, equipment makers, material suppliers, devices makers, R&D labs, investors ... to develop an unique knowledge of this industry. At SEMICON Europa, our aim will be to present our latest analysis, exchange with the leaders of the semiconductor industry and converge our points of view”, says Jean - Christophe Eloy, President & CEO, Yole Développement.
